Athens Airport

Athens Airport “Elefthérios Venizélos” (IATA: ATH, ICAO: LGAV),  is the civilian airport that serves the city of Athens and the region of Attica. The airport is the major hub and base for Olympic Air, as well as for Aegean Airlines.

Ατηενσ Airport is Athens’ only international airport, serving over 30 million people annually. The airport is approximately 29 kilometers from Athens’ central business district. Road access is available through Attiki Odos, although the majority of travelers choose for public transportation.

To avoid becoming disoriented at the airport, follow these steps:

As you will see, Athens airport is not hectic in comparison to many other international airports. Passengers are aided in locating their location by bilingual signs:

To the Bus Terminal: Buses and taxis depart from the terminal’s Arrivals level. Simply follow the “Buses/Limousines” signage. At the bus station, the sole ticket office that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year is located.

To Metro / Suburban: Metro and Suburban trains leave from the Airport railway station’s neighboring platforms. The station building is located on the Airport’s Departures level (if arriving by plane, you will ascend via elevator or escalator) and is connected to the terminal building through a pedestrian bridge that is spanned by a moving walkway (see photo below).

The railway station is a 3-5 minute walk from the airport’s departures or arrivals terminals. Simply follow the “to Metro & Suburban” signs. During station operation hours, ticket offices are available.

Taxi: The taxi waiting room is located on the arrivals level between Exits 2 and 3. Present is a traffic warden there who will direct you to the appropriate cab. The price from the airport to Athens’s central business district by a athens airport taxi is fixed:

– The day (05:00-24:00) 38 euros
– Evening (24:00-05:00) 54 euros

The airport serves more than 16 million travellers annually and was named after the distinguished Greek statesman Eleftherios Venizelos.
