Heraklion Airport Nikolaos Kazantzakis (IATA: HER, ICAO: LGIR) is the primary airport on the island of Crete, Greece. It is located about 5 km from the city of Heraklion. Heraklion airport is named after Heraklion native Nikos Kazantzakis, a Greek writer and philosopher.
It is the country’s second busiest airport after Athens International Airport.
The terminal building is fairly small and therefore is extremely busy on peak days in the busy season
The airport is also used by the Greek Air Force, therefore photography is officially prohibited.
